Lithuania's Foreign Minister Landsbergis: Ukraine’s victory requires a concerted effort of the international community
On 20 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis attended the Bucharest Nine (B9) meeting of Foreign Ministers on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the United States of America.
At the meeting with the presence of the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, the Foreign Ministers of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary discussed NATO's agenda, action coordination, strengthening support for Ukraine, as well as the response to China’s challenges and policies towards Belarus.
The Bucharest Nine meeting today reaffirmed a common determination — to make a concerted effort of the international community to help Ukraine achieve victory over Russia. Although Ukraine is recapturing territories occupied by Russia every day, the final victory requires arms, humanitarian aid and the activation of international legal mechanisms,” Landsbergis summed up.
In 2015, nine countries — Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia — established the B9 platform for political cooperation, which aims to strengthen the Euro-Atlantic security. High-ranking U.S. representatives are also regularly invited to the B9 meetings. In 2020, the B9 meeting was held in Vilnius.
